How it all started
Farscape came from the brilliant minds of Rockne S. O'Bannan and The Jim Henson company. They spent five years in developing Farscape and to me it was time well spent;. Farscape has been compared to the likes of Star Trek and Star Wars.
It (Farscape) tells us a story about a distant galaxy different far from our own, in Earth's current time (unlike Star Trek with 500+ years in the future, and Star War which is yet another galaxy far, far away). About a man (an astronaut), John Crichton, who was thrown into this galaxy mistakenly from an experimental space flight. Out of nowhere a wormhole transports far beyond our own galaxy in the midst of a battle between human-like race called the Peacekeepers (the galaxy's military) and a handful of prisoners on a 'living ship' called Moya.
John Crichton is brought on to Moya along with the escaping prisoners: Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan (Zhaan), a spiritual and serene Delvian priestess; Ka D'Argo (D'Argo), short-tempered Luxan warrior; Dominar Rygel XVI (Rygel), a greedy and selfish Hynerian emperor; Pilot, cross between a navigator, and a companion who is Moya's naviagor. Along with John Crichton, a Peacekeeper officer Aeryn Sun a Sebacean (a humanoid like race), was also brought onboard. Over time Moya had resident come aboard: Chiana, a headstrong self-sufficient Nebari; Stark, a member of the enslaved Banik race who ability to ease pain and suffering; Jothee, the son of Ka D'Argo and a Sebacean woman, Lo'Lann; Joolushko Tunai Fenta Hovalis (Jool), from the Interion race; Sikozu Svala Shanti Sugaysi Shanu (Sikouz), member of the Kalish species; Utu-Noranti Pralatong, a very mysterious individual. (you find out more about these people in the Who's Who section).
Its Demise
On September 26, 2002 Farscape was cancelled, even though it had at least another season to go. The cancellation was due to poor ratings and the increasing cost of the production of the series. Before the series was cancelled, Farscape won a number of Saturn Awards. It won three awards for 'Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series' (2000 - 2002) and Ben Browder won two awards for 'Best Actor' (2000 - 2001)
The Campaign
Thanks to the internet, fans got together and started a campaign to get the series back on the air. We refuse to let this series die, along with it creators (Rockne S. O'Bannon, David Kemper and The Jim Henson company) and the cast. We fought a long and hard battle that eventually paid off. There has never been such a drive to get a show back on the air besides when Star Trek (the original series) was taken off the air.
It's Resurrection
Back in November 2003 there were rumblings on the internet that Farscape is coming back, as a mini-series. On December 15, 2003 production began on the 4 hour mini-series and in March, 2004 production wrapped up and was going to be aired towards the end of the year (October 17, 2004). The funding for the mini-series can from undisclosed private investors who share the same passion for the series as the fans did.
